Tavel: "First Rose of France"
Tavel is a charming village of the Gard, where wine production dates back to Roman times. The soil allows the production of one of the most famous wines of the Cotes du Rhone, the Tavel, wine only rosé, which Louis Pasteur quoted in reference. Since it is called "first rosé of France."
The village is also famous for the quality of the limestone from its basement: 2 quarries extract even today the famous “stone of Tavel”, famous for its strength and its colors: polished, it looks like blue marble, ivory ... Used for restoration of the famous luxury hotel George V in Paris, until the Middle East, where its subtle color is appreciated.
