Pont du Gard : top of the world heritage
PONT DU GARD: Top of the World Heritage site.
The Pont du Gard is the most grandiose part of an roman aqueduct which led to the city of Nîmes the water collected near Uzes.
It’s a monumental bridge of 892,39 ft long, and 157,48 ft high.
It was built to support a part of the aqueduct which crossed, in this location, the wide valley of the Gardon.
The aqueduct, with a total length of 31 miles, testifies of the incredible mastery of the Romans to achieve a such gigantic construction.
It’s also testifies of the wealth of the Empire, in the 1st century AD.
